The Beauty in Belonging: Lessons with the Herd

May 3-5, 2024

Freedom Reigns Equine Sanctuary

San Juan Bautista, California

Stop me if this sounds familiar:

You miss the sense of possibility and freedom you felt when you were younger.

You exhaust yourself accommodating the needs of others, but you’re not sure what YOU need to feel empowered and alive.

You operate at 110 percent but can’t shake the lingering guilt: You’re not meditating enough; you’re not working out or eating well enough.

You often feel like you’re not enough.

You tick every box that’s supposed to make you feel strong and empowered, and you can’t figure out why you don’t feel that way.

It’s possible a life spent accommodating, caretaking and prioritizing others is leaving you feeling burned out, frustrated and alone.

How can you live a happy and healthy life when you constantly feel the weight and expectation to be better and to do better?

More importantly, how can you do this, on your own?

I’ve spent the greater part of the past three decades working with women who want to feel empowered in their lives.

Through my psychotherapy practice, I’ve worked with women who want to improve their relationships with their spouses, with their families and—most importantly—with themselves.

I’ve spent most of my career and personal life trying to answer the question,

What is a healthy relationship?

I’ve read a lot of books, listened to podcasts, garnered multiple degrees and certifications.

Want to know what’s taught me some of the most powerful lessons about relationships?

Horses.

In the company of horses, I’ve learned about presence and collective care.

They teach me about trust, non judgmental awareness, leadership and communication.

I have come home to an internal sense of peace and freedom, thanks to my lessons with the herd.

I have remembered and reclaimed what it feels like to embody empowerment & ease.

Horses have inspired me to:

Find my grounded, embodied center

Lead myself first, then others

Set clear boundaries with love and honesty

Grow trust in my intuition

Balance my nervous system with breath and presence

That’s why I’m leading The Beauty in Belonging: Lessons with the Herd — a retreat for women on 4,000 acres of land in California where over 550 wild horses run free.

There is a place for you here.

This is a sacred space created for women from all walks of life to come together in authentic community, to learn from each other and the herd, and to be free.

You will share in:

  • Small- and large-scale guided herd experiences, learning directly from the horses

  • Daily guided yoga, meditation, and movement practices

  • Nourishing meals curated by a gourmet chef

  • Intimate circles exploring the beauty in belonging to ourselves, one another and the greater whole.

  • Rejuvenating evenings around a fire, serenaded by fiddler Annie Savage (who has performed with Aretha Franklin, John Williams, Ricky Skaggs, and many more!)

  • Embodiment Practices that promote a connection with a grounded sense of self and a renewed trust in the power of belonging.

  • Self compassion tools to help you identify limiting thoughts and belief patterns.

  • Group exploration exercises that examine relationship patterns including boundary setting, taking up space, awareness of verbal and nonverbal communication, and trust building.

  • Development of skills that support emotional regulation, embodied presence and ability to reclaim your authentic self.

  • Collaborative and Creative Flora Circle Practice.

  • High End Tipi Glamping accommodations on the ranch, on Friday & Saturday nights, with evenings around the fire, under the stars.

    Show up exactly as you are;

you will be supported and held in the power of community

Life Changing.

That is how past guests have described this retreat.

“I had the most awe-inspiring experience at the Living in Awe retreat at Freedom Reigns.

Feeling the immense power of the herd, connecting with nature, and experiencing transformation through movement and breath was truly life-changing.

It’s a journey I’ll carry with me always. Grateful for the women who joined me, the profound moments, and the majestic energy of the horses.”

– Danielle Herrick

This retreat was a profoundly beautiful weekend with wild mustangs and wild women. I came away feeling more alive and awake than I had in years!

Each element of the experience was nurturing, connecting and inspiring. Through gentle movement and somatic exercises, precious time with the herd, and nightly gathering around the fire, we flowed into deep and meaningful waters.

The retreat reminded me of the magic in life, and in myself.

It’s been over a year since our little group of strangers gathered at Freedom Reigns and yet I still feel a deep sense of belonging to this earth, to myself and with others.

-Natasha Taylor

“In our retreat, I experienced a profound sense of belonging and connection to the horses and to the other women in the group.

We were nourished in every way from the meals, to the fire circles and the somatic exercises.

Not very many women know the feeling of being lovingly cared for entirely for even a day

I left with a joy I had all but lost. And I have drawn from the power and solidarity of this transformative weekend every day since.”

-Annie Savage
